The Planning and Development Committee is responsible for reviewing planning applications and proposals within the town and acting as a statutory consultee to the Local Planning Authority. At each meeting, councillors consider new applications, note planning decisions made by East Suffolk Council, and review any letters of objection, support, or observations submitted by residents and consultees. The committee also discusses wider development issues such as the Neighbourhood Plan, community surveys, and potential impacts on biodiversity and the local environment. These meetings ensure that planning matters are dealt with transparently and that the council's recommendations reflect the interests of the local community.
Full Council
The Annual Full Council Meeting is a key session where the Town Council formally begins its new civic year. At this meeting, councillors elect the Chairman and Vice Chairman, confirm committee memberships, and appoint representatives to outside bodies. It provides an opportunity to set the foundations for the year ahead, ensuring that the council is properly structured and able to carry out its duties effectively. In addition to these formalities, the Annual Meeting may also include reports from the Chairman, officers, and committees, as well as updates on local projects and community matters. While it follows a set legal framework, it also serves as a public forum where residents can observe how their council is organised and how it intends to manage local services and priorities in the coming year.
Finance & Governance
The Finance and Governance Committee is responsible for overseeing the Town Council's financial management and ensuring sound governance practices. These meetings focus on reviewing budgets, income and expenditure, financial policies, and reports such as bank reconciliations and trial balances. The committee also considers grant applications, service agreements, and matters relating to the council's assets, policies, and compliance with statutory requirements. By monitoring the council's financial position and governance framework, the committee helps ensure that resources are used effectively, risks are managed, and the council remains accountable and transparent. These meetings provide an important link between day-to-day operations and the council's long-term plans, enabling councillors to make informed decisions on behalf of the community.
Community & Recreation
The Community and Recreation Committee focuses on the town's community facilities, open spaces, and local events. It considers matters such as the management and improvement of play areas, green spaces, and recreational facilities, as well as projects like new amenities, land adoption, and environmental enhancements. The committee also oversees the organisation and support of community events and initiatives that encourage local engagement and wellbeing. It provides a forum for discussing improvements to transport and public spaces, as well as promoting activities that bring residents together. Through its work, the committee helps ensure Kesgrave remains a vibrant, accessible, and welcoming place for all.
